MILLION – PEOPLED CITIES AND A EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENT! Circa 1935.
    39 3/4×24 3/4 inches, 101×63 cm. Troedel & Cooper, Melbourne.

Born 30 May 1902, Beaufort, Victoria, Australia, Tromph was a Commercial Artist, Designer and Poster Artist.  He is celebrated for his many colour lithographic posters.

A refined and elegant image of couples dancing on an outdoor terrace in Miller’s Point, beneath the stars, and the twinkling lights of the newly constructed (opened in 1932) Sydney Harbor Bridge beyond, with the city itself on the other side of the harbor. Clearly aimed at European and American travellers the image encapsulates the notion that Sydney is a sophisticated and modern city along the lines of New York, London or Paris. We have been unable to locate another copy of this poster at auction or in any institutional collection. This is an exceedingly rare poster. The last one of these sold at Swann for $10,625 plus commission, plus tax a decade ago, in 2013.
